Arcana turns boss victories into new actions. Konami says defeated bosses are sealed into Rose’s tarot cards, which grant spells and special actions. The useful planning rule is simple: a boss reward may improve combat, open traversal, or do both, so defeating a boss can change the value of rooms you already passed.

The table is a role map, not a complete card list. It tells you what the system does without pretending that every Arcana, cost or upgrade is already documented.

From The Fallen to two new options

GameTrek’s Demo reward section lists Holy Cross and Arcane Whip after The Fallen. Together they show the two sides of progression: one reward expands combat, while the other changes where Rose can travel.

If the fight is your current obstacle, learn a response to The Fallen’s three-hit claw combo. Once you win, do not treat the reward screen as the end of that task; check which earlier rooms now contain usable anchors.

Holy Cross: the combat example

IGN’s media preview describes Holy Cross as a boomerang-like spell received from The Fallen. Its importance here is not a damage ranking. It proves that a boss can add a new combat action instead of only dropping a conventional weapon.

The current evidence does not establish a final cooldown, cost, damage value or best build for Holy Cross. Those questions belong to a later, version-verified Arcana entry rather than this system overview.

Arcane Whip: the traversal example

The Demo tutorial shows Rose aiming and hooking onto luminous anchors or enemies. Look for circular connection points when returning to a room, and aim toward the actual point rather than assuming the whip will select it automatically.

The Cestus route is the clearest practical example: return to Sewer Reservoir, stand on the grate in the huge background staircase, lash directly upward to reveal the hidden anchor, then hook onto it to reach the upper chest. Follow the Cestus route.

What the pre-release preview adds

Hobby Consolas reports from a nearly three-hour pre-release session that Rose could equip one Arcana spell at a time. Its preview also describes card-specific challenges—such as deflecting attacks with holy light or finding hidden places—that award points used to improve a spell through upgrade choices.

That suggests an additional loop: obtain a boss card, use it, complete its own Works of Mercy challenges, then improve it. Because these observations come from a media build, use them to understand the intended system rather than to assume every slot, objective or upgrade choice is unchanged in the public Demo or final release.

How to judge a future Arcana

When another card is documented, four questions make the entry useful:

  1. Which boss or event grants it?
  2. Does it solve combat, traversal, or both?
  3. What resource, slot or activation condition limits it?
  4. Which earlier route, enemy or challenge becomes easier after you obtain it?

This prevents an Arcana list from becoming a name dump. Each entry should tell the player what decision changes after the card is acquired.

What is confirmed and what still needs release evidence

Konami supports the boss-to-card relationship. IGN supplies the Holy Cross example, and the public Demo shows the Arcane Whip action. The one-spell equipment rule and challenge upgrades are attributed to a July media build.

A complete retail list of Arcana, slots, costs, cooldowns, challenge requirements and upgrade choices is not established here. For the current actionable routes, check the verified Demo returns or compare Arcana with weapons and Relics.
